Web & Communications Manager – Volunteer Ottawa, Present

The Web & Communications Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the center’s communication program, including the management of the Volunteer Ottawa website, and volunteer management tool. This role also leads the development and design of print and digital marketing collateral, and oversees the ongoing evolution of the social media strategy. Additional responsibilities include working closely with volunteers, community organizations and the media to build and manage relationships through two-way communications via social media and email marketing.

Founder – Six Degrees Innovations, Present

Six Degrees Innovations helps organizations interested in increasing their online presence through social media, while meeting organizational goals and needs. The company offers two distinct services: creating, maintaining and monitoring social networks or providing clients with the skills and support to run their networks themselves. Clients are briefed on strategy, SEO options, and general analytics on a monthly basis. As founder, responsibilities range from administrative functions to performing social media audits and developing social media marketing plans.

Project Manager – Algonquin College, 2010-2011

As part of Algonquin College’s goal to redesign the website, steps were taken to strategize content, layout and conversion options. Working groups were formed to develop personas and tactics on how to best simulate current and future students’ website needs. This position started by developing a plan, to working with Wordpress developers, to executing and implementing content to a new website and CMS that meets client needs. This role was also expanded to oversee advertising and the production and content layout of several in-house publications to promote the College as a great option for furthering education.

Alumni Relations Consultant – Algonquin Alumni Association, 2010

Working alongside the Executive Director of Advancement, this project examined best practices of college and university alumni associations around the world. Research consisted of analyzing what services and benefits other associations are offering, how they use their website and social networks to promote their efforts, as well as examining how alumnus are celebrated and recognized. Findings from these reports were presented and well received by the alumni Board of Directors.

Marketing, Communications & Project Manager – Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women & Sport (CAAWS), 2009-2010

This position oversaw programs dedicated to encouraging mothers, women and young girls to get active through physical activity. Specific marketing functions include dissemination of resources, maintaining and exploring social media options, as well as developing and distributing content for member-based newsletters, news releases, and media requests. Furthermore, emphasis was put on working towards creating and expanding the member relations’ component to ensure delivery of accurate and timely information.

Marketing & Communications Assistant – Canada Games Council, 2009

Responsible for all social media for the 2009 Canada Games held in Prince Edward Island. Tasks included creating and managing the official Twitter and Facebook accounts, creating and maintaining a blog, and managing guest bloggers. This position also moderated content on social networks, including identifying potential threats and opportunities. Other responsibilities included research of past and potential future sponsors, writing for the website and newsletter, as well as working closely with provincial and national sport organizations.

Vice-President and Board Secretary – Algonquin Students’ Association Board of Directors, 2008 – 2009

In the role of vice-president, the first goal is to achieve satisfaction and keep 16,000 students informed, through orientation, board meetings, and annual general meeting. In the role of secretary, all books, papers, records, correspondence, and contracts are correct and up to date.
