Consisting of graduates from various programs, this group develops long-term programs and activities for the Association. The goal of the Algonquin College Alumni Association is to offer graduates a focal point of support and coordination, and a package of beneficial services and activities for individual growth, group interaction and long-term career development.
Volunteer Ottawa helps match volunteers with over 1,000 community organizations providing them with leadership skills, volunteer hours and a sense of giving back to the community. As a member of this volunteer committee, tasks include brainstorming strategies to raise awareness, funds, and the profile of the organization through events and fundraising.
To ensure the event runs smoothly, volunteers identify and escort VIP guests to the red carpet to be photographed by over 50 photographers. As winners are announced they are brought to the media room where they answer media questions, and are photographed with the coveted prize. At the post-awards party, the Genie’s official photographer was shadowed by a volunteer who aided him in taking names and gathering groups of attendees.
Chair of promotions with responsibilities including overseeing and participating in the development of promotional material, approaching media for coverage, and ensuring promotional requests from other internal committees are met. The committee of nine planned the second annual Strides for Change/MADD Dash race. Other responsibilities include finding sponsors for the event, recruiting, informing and motivating participants and coordinating information with supporting organizations.
